Shavers Fork 402
Engine 402 is a 1969 Mack CF-600 fire engine equipped with a Waterous 1200 gallon per minute hydro pump.

Engine 402 has been protecting our community for over 25 years and until 2004 was our front line fire engine. Unit 402 has been moved to a second string position behind our two newest engines 401 and 407. Engine 402 now serves a very important roll at SFFR as a service / supply vehicle and back up pumper.

Unit 405 serves as SFFR’s Rescue Response Unit. Rescue 405 is equipped with Hurst tools, high pressure airbags for vehicle extrication, high angle rescue gear, scene lighting, cave & confined space rescue gear, compressors, inverters and a large selection of hand tools.

SFFR Unit 401 is a class A pumper built for Shavers Fork by Kovatch Mobile Equipment (KME). 

Unit 401 is SFFR’s first responding pumper during the summer months (may- October) and will respond to all fire and EMS emergency calls. It’s short wheelbase and 400hp engine makes it nimble and well suited for the wide variety of calls SFFR responds to throughout the warmer months. 

 

401 is outfitted with a thermal imager, multi-gas detector, exhaust fans, generators, vent saws and a wide arsenal of hand tools, rescue equipment and overhaul gear to give our firefighters every advantage possible.

SFFR unit 407 is a class A pumper and it’s the fist responding engine for SFFR during the winter season (November- April).  Its 4X4 chassis, locking differentials, High/low range transfer case and automatic snow chains gives this fire engine enough attitude to perform in abundant ice and snow conditions that Snowshoe Mountain is famous for. 

 

During the summer months, 407 is outfitted with all the pumps, equipment, tools, and supplies necessary to battle any wild land situation that may occur.

Shavers Fork Unit 403 is a 74,000lb  monster that has been in service since 2001. A recent boom in resort development at Snowshoe Mountain resulted in a large number of structures that are three or more stories tall. This produced the need for very specialized firefighting equipment. Unit 403 is outfitted with a variety of ladders to provide access to firefighters in otherwise, inaccessible locations. 

 

LT-1 is equipped with on board scene lighting, ground ladders ranging from 10’  to 35’, onboard generators, and more than 1000’ of high-rise packs. Unit 403 is equipped with a master stream that can put out more than 1,000 gallons per minute and can be remotely controlled.

Shavers Fork 410
SFFR 410 is the crown jewel of our ambulance fleet. This 2008 Life Line is a custom designed ambulance mounted on a Ford F-450 4×4 chassis. Unit 410 went into service July 2008 and serves as our 1st out ALS unit.
 

 

Shavers Fork 409

SFFR 409 is a 2000 Ford F-350 4×4 designed by McCoy Miller. Unit 409 was placed in service at SFFR in 2006. 409 serves an important roll as our 2nd out ALS unit.

 

Shavers Fork 408
SFFR 408 is a 1995 Quigley designed ambulance mounted on a Ford E-350 4×4 chassis. Unit 408 serves as a third-out BLS unit.

Through the generous assistance of our friends Frank and Dianne Hoppes, SFFR received unit 408 as a donation from Plains, Virginia.

Shavers Fork 406
SFFR 406 is a 1962 M-37 Dodge pick-up that was donated by the West Virginia Forestry Department in 1987. At 46 years of age, Unit 406 is the oldest apparatus owned by SFFR. At close to half a century old, this unit runs smooth and can pump water as well as the day it was built. Unit 406 was taken out of service in 2006 and was replaced by SFFR 407 as our Wildland Interface Pumper.
