Shavers Fork Fire Rescue is proud to serve numerous communities in Pocahontas County, WV. The residents, visitors and homeowners in Mace, Slatyfork, Mingo, Snowshoe, Big Springs, Linwood and Stony Bottom benefit from our mission: To prevent loss of life, personal injury and damage from fire, disaster and medical emergencies through emergency response, training, public education and information.

Shavers Fork Fire Rescue is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that is funded by state and federal grants as well as support from the homeowners of Snowshoe Mountain Resort. SFFR combines paid and volunteer members that operate out of one station on Snowshoe Mountain that protects the commercial area of Snowshoe as well as the surrounding communities mentioned above and a portion of the Monogahela National Forest.

In addition to firefighting and EMS, SFFR excels in high-angle rescue, cave rescue, HAZMAT & DECON operations and we have the only MSF certified Dirt Bike Response Team for those tough Search & Rescues where ATV’s cannot go.

It is important to the membership of SFFR that the community is educated in Fire Awareness. Please click on the Fire Prevention link above to educate yourself on life safety information.

As we begin another winter season here in the Allegheny Mountains, here are a few quick tips that will help you to ensure a safe home.

Change your smoke detector battery if it has been at least 6 months

If you have a wood burning fireplace, be sure to clean out the chimney before heating your home

Consider the purchase of a carbon monoxide monitor for your home

Make sure all electric baseboard heaters are clear of any throw rugs, drapery or furniture

Have fire extinguishers available for quick emergency response

Please take your time and look around our site and let us know how we may be able to help you.

Thank you,
